Professional Hopes and Goals
- One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds
I hope that the children and their families
I serve will collaborate with the child care program. I hope they will feel
respected, understood, and trust the teachers. I also hope my bias will be
resolved and not get in the way of being a better teacher.
- One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice
One goal I would like to set is to
make it mandatory for all teachers and staff working in the early childhood
field to take a class about personal bias and multicultural education. Teachers must know and understand their bias
and all types of isms.
- A brief note of thanks to your colleagues
Thanks to all my colleagues for
sharing their personal experiences and bias with the class. Talking about this
helps us understand how diverse we are as teachers. Dialoguing also encourages support.
So thank you!

Zena,
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea about all being repsonsible to further their education in diversity and biases!! I think that on a local level, we as directors, could design and implement mini-units on this to work on during staff meetings and trainings. They could comprise of personal bias inventories to start off with! We can make a difference by sharing what we have learned with others! It's been a pleasure learning with you! Good luck!

I too think that all educators should have a training in anti-bias educaton. I have learned so much about myself and my hang ups. Once we recognize who we are and our beliefs are brought out, we can better educate children. May you have much success in your future of early childhood education.

I agree with you and also feel that teachers should know a lot about bias and teach it to others so they are aware. I have enjoyed reading your blogs and getting to know you!!
